Stations of the Cross
There are traditionally fourteen Stations of the Cross. Each station represents a different moment in Jesus’ Passion and Death.
Stations of the Cross were inserted in their niches at St. Mary’s Church in Lochee in September 1868. The were canonically erected by the Franciscan Fathers on 5th March 1874.
Further work was completed on the Stations as part of the improvements made during Father Beurms’ time as the priest-in-charge and at some later point they were painted in colour.
Prayerful meditation through the Stations of the Cross is especially common during Lent and on Fridays throughout the year, in commemoration of Christ’s Crucifixion on Good Friday.
